The comprehensive dredging project at TFS Port, which plays a critical role in Türkiye aviation infrastructure and is the sole fuel supply channel for iGA Istanbul Airport, has been successfully completed.
Safety, continuity, and operational efficiency are among the most fundamental priorities in the aviation fuel supply chain. Over time, sand deposits and seabed uplift caused by strong winds, currents, and waves have begun to pose a risk that could hinder the safe maneuvering of large tonnage vessels. This situation had the potential to limit the ability of refueling vessels with capacities up to 125,000 DWT to dock at port at full capacity.
TFS responded to this need with a rapid and strategic approach, implementing a comprehensive 1,000,000 m³ dredging operation. As part of the project, the seabed depth was increased in designated areas from the port entrance to the interior regions, ensuring that large-capacity vessels can dock safely and fully loaded.
With the investment made:
- It has become possible to supply higher volumes of aviation fuel in a single shipment with larger tonnage vessels,
- Operation times have been optimized to ensure uninterrupted fuel flow,
- This has contributed to reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.
- Safety standards have been raised to a higher level.
This project represents a strategic infrastructure investment by TFS that contributes to its long-term capacity planning, sustainability goals, and Türkiye aviation vision.
